It’s my honor to receive the Best Paper Award 2021 from the International Associate of Chinese Youth in Water Sciences (CYWater) for the paper “Global bioenergy with carbon capture and storage potential is largely constrained by sustainable irrigation”. This work was conducted under the supervision of Naota Hanasaki, Head of Climate Change Impacts Assessment Research Section at the Center for Climate Change Adaptation in National Institute for Environmental Studies. Together with our collaborators from Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Ritsumeikan University, and Kyoto University, we quantified the impacts of irrigation on the global bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) potential in view of sustainable water use based on computer simulations. We expect that our findings contribute to a better understanding of the biophysical constrained BECCS potential when pursuing the climate goal. The award is a great inspiration for me to continue to explore the water-energy-food-land nexus from the view of sustainability!
